Nikki Nickerson hates her name and her boring life as a nine-year-old in the small town of Cragglyville. That is, until she finds a disappearing path into a forest that is rumored to be haunted. At first, Nikki and her best friend, Spencer have nothing but fun, playing around with the gloves and unlocking their powers. Then they meet Jimmy, who also seems to have his own powers...and is determined to destroy Nikki's hometown. Things just got real!
I would have loved reading this story when I was a kid. Its fun and full of action and adventure. Not to mention the hilarity! I was laughing out loud several times throughout the story! And while the author has lessons for the characters to learn, it never gets too heavy, and is fun from beginning to end!
Kids who are fans of The Magic Treehouse series or Captain Underpants will love Nikki Powergloves!

I have two boys 6 and 10 and they love to read. This book & series has become a nightly routine. The boys love the suspends and the author leaves enough room to give the audience a chance to figure out the twist of the story. Each book starts a little slow because of the background information, but once it gets rolling your kids will become detectives trying to figure out how the Nikki will solve the next problem!!
Ok, is there such thing as love in first sight? Well, I loved this book the moment I read it. It doesn't get better than this! I love it. I would recommend it everyone! Like, even the older people! Love this book
I'm reading this book to our 8-year-old daughter (she could read it on her own). It's a fun story. We are half way through. The only thing that I don't like is that the girl doesn't want to tell her parents what's going on, nor does she explain why she doesn't want to. Although that is a fact of life, kids don't tell their parents lots of stuff, I don't like that message. This story gives me an opportunity to talk to our daughter about that issue.
Nikki Powergloves A Hero is Born is a very cute story. My 9-year-old especially enjoyed it. It sets up the rest of the series, but can be read as a standalone. It’s a great book for elementary aged kids and makes a great read-aloud!

I love this book! The adventures of these superheroes and villains are so adventurous! I can't wait to get the next book!
This is the kind of adventure all kids dream about (okay probably not all kids, but they should). Mr. Estes breezy writing sets the stage for fun escapades with Nikki from page one. Nikki is imaginative, teachable, and could be a real nine-year-old kid. She makes mistakes while getting a handle on her powers which leads to consequences that affect others, but she does take responsibility for them and tries to fix them. I see this as the big difference between her and the villain Jimmy. Life lesson for everyone to learn no matter their age. Though Mr. Estes doesn't leave Jimmy as a flat character; he provides the reader some understanding of how Jimmy came to be. Mr. Estes also shows that even our best intentions can be misconstrued by others.
I loved the chapter titles and think Mr. Miyagi is the best dog's name ever! I really like Spencer - everyone needs a best friend that fits them - and everything he added to Nikki's journey. Also, this book is completely age appropriate - something as a mother I cherish.

Our 7-soon-to-be-8 year old loves this series. We are on the second book now and she can't wait to see what happens.
Overall, as an adult, I found the series to be engaging and an easy read. I know why my daughter enjoys it so much. Silly in parts? Yes. But, it's got action, intrigue and a dialogue that is true to form. When there are things my wife and I don't approve of (such as Nikki playing a joke on Spencer by pulling down his pants when she first discovers her invisibility powers), we talk it through together. My daughter says she would love to see this turned into a movie or tv series. I'm hoping they don't because Hollywood would ruin it. BUT, I understand why she would want to see these characters brought to life.
I'd recommend this series for those wanting a fun-loving romp through the adventures of a girl superhero. I would say this is more 3 1/2 to 4 stars, but my daughter would be upset if I didn't give it anything other than 5 stars. For $2.99, you can't beat the price for an opportunity to inspire a young mind with a fun story.
